FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Notifications

We will activate an alert before a training or race event to indicate whether the event is a go or no-go. If it is for a weekend event, the alert will be added on Friday and Saturday afternoons, the day before scheduled training and/or events. Please note the different alerts below:

Program is a GO!

Programs will operate as normal.

CAUTION – POSSIBLE IMPACTS

A caution alert will notify athletes of a potential postponement, location changes, weather, or other changes in everyday operations.

NO GO – PROGRAMS WILL NOT RUN

All Ski Team programs have been canceled for this day due to weather concerns/operational impacts.

All Mountain program Teams – MAIN LODGE AREA

Ski Team Meeting

All Mountain Program Teams start on the snow, out from the main lodge, near Northwest Express Load at the main lodge. Look for the large flags denoting Program Teams.

Race Program Teams – WINTERS CREEK LODGE

Race Program Teams start on the snow near Zephyr Express at Winters Creek Lodge.

We use the email address(es) provided during athlete ski team registration, and typically, families forward/share any communications within their family.

If it is absolutely necessary, we can manually add e-mail addresses.

Please note, if you are not receiving Ski Team program e-mails, there are many possible reasons for this, and we cannot troubleshoot individual e-mail account issues.

Changes to athlete registration are only possible when there is enrollment capacity in the desired program(s) – i.e. Shredders Saturday.  Our programs typically sell out well before the beginning of the ski season, please check Ski Team registration availability before making a request.

Any change to athlete registration will result in a $100 processing fee, per registration/athlete.

Changes to the program an athlete is registered for are only made if the athlete is not a good ability level fit for their program, as determined by Ski Team coaches.  We do not ‘move’ athletes between programs by request, once registered.

Athletes are evaluated for skiing ability the first several weekends of training and are placed with similar ability-level skiers in a group with a coach.  If it is determined an athlete is not a good fit for the program they are registered for, we will explore alternatives, including moving programs – but this is not guaranteed.  Programs may be sold out/at maximum capacity, and moving to a different program may not be an option. In those cases, a full refund less a $100 processing fee, per registration/athlete, will be processed.

Note, that moving between programs could result in an additional expense OR a refund for a portion of enrollment fees.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience the lunch schedule creates – staggering lunches is the only way we can avoid long lines, excessive wait times, and overcrowding in the lodge and cafe.

While we would like to accommodate Program/Team swaps or other adjustments to accommodate personal preferences, such as schedules, changes like these disrupt our coach-to-athlete ratios, which results in an unfair negative impact on other athletes across the Program/Team.

After the season begins/the first few training weeks, there is potential that spots could open up in the Team of your preference – at which point we would need to evaluate athlete fit in the desired Team to ensure they can ski at a level consistent with other athletes in the Team/group.

There are many variables that go into choosing the right gear, including boots and skis, and most depend on body type/size, the ability/type of skier, and the skier’s preferred style of skiing.

Our advice would be to visit a reputable ski shop and talk to them about new gear and the options that are right for your athlete.

Stay tuned for 25/26 season opportunities. We are exploring a gear swap for Ski Team athletes/families in the Fall of 2025. Ski Team registrants will be notified via e-mail of any gear swap opportunities.

Uniforms

An official Mt. Rose Ski Team jacket is required for all Ski Team athletes.

Ski Team jackets will be available to purchase for the 25/26 season in the August/September timeframe. An e-mail will be sent to all Ski Team registrants with jacket purchase info.

The Mt. Rose Ski Team will continue to use the orange AKOVA jackets as the official Ski Team uniform. The hardshell is mandatory, while the insulator is optional and can be in the color of your choice.

Pants: Black (recommended but not required, pants can be the color of your choosing)

Mt. Rose is unable to provide guidance on any AKOVA gear purchases.

AKOVA, the Mt. Rose Ski Team jacket partner, will handle all Ski Team jacket needs and inquiries.

  • AKOVA provides many size options, including youth and adult sizes (please refer to the size chart below for more information)
  • Jackets purchased from AKOVA will be shipped directly to the purchaser. Shipping timelines may vary.

SIZE GUIDES – AKOVA has size guides + size calculators for each jacket type:  Kids – Adult Female – Adult Male

25/26 Ski Team Jackets Available for Purchase in August/September 2025 – STAY TUNED!

Can I return my AKOVA jacket if the one we ordered is too small or too large?

Unfortunately, jackets purchased new from AKOVA cannot be returned as they are manufactured specifically to order for Mt. Rose athletes, with custom embroidery and logos added.

Will AKOVA exchange our purchased jacket if my athlete needs a different size during the season?

Mt. Rose hardshell Jackets may be exchanged for a different size during the season. Note: Jacket shipping and arrival times may vary.

Is there any place my athlete can try different sizes on?

Currently, we do not have a range of samples for athletes to ‘try on.’  We are working with AKOVA to provide a range of samples/sizes to assist in the purchase of 25/26 season jackets. Ski Team registrants will be notified via e-mail of any opportunities to try on jackets. We advise using the vendor’s size chart to determine an appropriate size.  Generally, fast-growing children should size up at least one size. Note that AKOVA jackets have an ‘adjust-a-fit’ sleeve system, allowing for 2 inches of sleeve adjustment.

ALL OPTIONAL ITEM SALES ARE FINAL.

For any jacket-specific questions (order processing, delivery/shipping, sizing, etc.), please contact AKOVA (720) 221-2488 | [email protected]

Mt. Rose is unable to provide guidance on any AKOVA gear purchases.

Team orders are estimated to ship 5-7 weeks after being placed.  Team products are made in batches after collecting orders.  You will receive a tracking link from AKOVA once your order ships.

If your jacket does not arrive by the start of Ski Team training, the athlete(s) may wear a personal jacket of their choosing until their Ski Team jacket arrives.

Questions related to AKOVA orders (shipping, sizing, etc.) must be sent to AKOVA Customer Service (720) 221-2488 / [email protected].

Mt. Rose is unable to provide guidance on any AKOVA gear purchases.

Yes, athletes may wear their Mt. Rose Ski Team jackets when not training.

We ask that all athletes skiing in their Mt. Rose Ski Team jackets follow all ski team safety rules, including skiing safely and always obeying the Responsibility Code, skiing in control at all times, and following all chairlift safety guidelines, including riding all chairlifts with the bar down.

ASSESSMENT

These are NOT BEGINNER PROGRAMS

To ensure proper program placement, we will assess each athlete’s skiing ability. If an athlete does not meet the minimum skiing requirements, we may enroll them in a different program (if available) or cancel their registration with a full refund, minus a $100 processing fee.

AGE REQUIREMENTS

Your child must meet the minimum age requirement for each program to participate.

Program age parameters are not flexible— zero exceptions.

Fabricating age will result in immediate removal from Ski Team with no refund and disqualification from future Ski Team registration.

LOCATION & LIFTS

All Mountain Program Teams start on the snow near Northwest Express Load at the main lodge. Freeride Ski – Competitive Team meeting location is currently TBD for 25/26.

Race Program Teams start on the snow near Zephyr Express at Winters Creek Lodge.

All athletes must be able to access and ride all chairlifts at Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe with minimal assistance from lift attendants or other chairlift riders.

Athletes will ride with the safety bar down on all chairlifts. Children ages 6+ may ride the lift with another adult, not always with an instructor.

GENERAL POLICY

Once the program has started, we will not switch training days. We cannot accommodate athletes showing up on their non-training day. For example, come on a Sunday when you are in a Saturday program.

There are no makeup days – this is a season-long training program.

There is no team facility for the athletes. Athletes are expected to arrive at the meeting area ready to train. Gear storage or stowing of personal items is not provided.

There is NOT a waiting list for programs that sell out. Any availability will be updated at skirose.com

PARENTS LODGE USE

All guests, including Ski Team Parents, are welcome to use the Main Lodge and Winters Creek Lodge for dining and short-term stays. Flipping seats accommodate multiple guests over a given period in the facilities. This turnover of seats is especially important on “weather days” when more guests are seeking a quick break from the cold.

COMMUNICATION

This website is the primary communication mechanism for all athletes and their parents. Please note any changes or updates on this page. We will periodically send emails, but in general, athletes and parents should expect to find information here.

There is currently NO text message application in use for notifications.
