With three chair lifts in operation, this winter is near here, at Soda Springs, Squawl Valley, and the Sugar Bowl, and the T-bar running at Mount Rose, White Hills, and Donner Ski Ranch, another lift in the planning for the 1950-51 ski season.

It will be a mile-long lift at Mount Rose Bowl, with a vertical drop of 1,500 feet. With some of the potential runs being over three miles in length. It will open up the east side of Slide Mountain where the annual Silver Dollar Ski derby is held.

SKIING Anxious Nevada skiers, impatiently waiting for snow, need to wait only a little longer. Skiing starts Saturday at 10 a. m. on Rattlesnake Mountain, ten minute’s driving time from downtown Reno. The operators of Truckee Meadow’s newest enterprise, an artificial snow area, Ernest “Bud” Schoenfeld, Hal Codding, and Jerry Wetzel say their rope tow hill east of Reno on Peckham lane will be ready for limited use Saturday. Skiers will have a 400-foot hill covered with snow to a depth of about eight inches. The artificial operation has been established over the past several weeks.

NOTE: First man-made snow was created at Grossinger’s Resort in New York in 1952
