During a blizzard with excessive winds, one of the Northwest double chairs flipped over the cable and made turning the lift prohibitive. Greg Stafford (Mountain Manager and avid hunter) put his shooting skills to the test. Thirty shots from his 30/30 brought down the chair and allowed the lift to turn.

For many years “Slide” and “Rose” operated independently of each other, both expanding in their own ways with more lifts and lodge improvements. Mt. Rose even rented 85 hotel rooms for guest lodging until around 1984.
