Programs

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the Rippers program, athletes should be able to:

 PROGRAM ABILITY RANGE

Rippers IS NOT a beginner’s program and is not suited for first-time skiers.

Rippers candidates should be strong “beginner” to strong “intermediate” skiers*.

Rippers candidates must be able to comfortably ski beginner (GREEN / Easier ) trails and are progressing to intermediate (BLUE / More Difficult) terrain.

*Rippers program candidates will be tested for skiing ability at the beginning of the season. If the athlete does not meet the minimum skiing ability requirements, the athlete may be reenrolled in an appropriate alternative program (pending availability), or registration will be canceled with full reimbursement less a $100 processing fee. 

RIPPERS PROGRAM PREREQUISITES

  • Rippers candidates must have taken at least one season of lessons in Rosebuds Ski School/comparable ski school program (min. 4 lessons). 
  • Skiers interested in the Rippers program MUST…
    • be able to ski mostly using the ‘parallel’ technique (skis side-by-side, not in a ‘wedge’ or ‘pizza’ shape)
    • be able to put on/take off equipment on their own (skis on/off, use ski poles)
    • be able to steer, regulate speed using turns, and stop on their own – without falling
    • be able to ride all Mt Rose chairlifts on their own (load/unload with minimal help)
    • be able to regulate their own behavior such that they are not a safety hazard/distraction to others
    • be able to verbally communicate effectively with the coaches, without parental assistance 

ShreddersAs

OBJECTIVES

Shredders candidates should be strong “intermediate” skiers to emerging “advanced” skiers.*

Shredders candidates must be able to comfortably ski intermediate (BLUE / More Difficult) trails and are progressing to skiing advanced (BLACK / Most Difficult) terrain.

SHREDDERS PROGRAM PREREQUISITES

  • Shredders candidates must have at least one (1) season in the Rippers Ski Team program/comparable Ski Team Program OR have taken at least two seasons of lessons in Ski School (min. 4 lessons/season).
  • Skiers interested in the Shredders program MUST…
    • be able to ski exclusively using the ‘parallel’ technique (skis side-by-side, not in a ‘wedge’ or ‘pizza’ shape)
    • be able to put on/take off equipment on their own (skis on/off, use ski poles)
    • be able to steer, regulate speed using turns, and stop on their own – without falling
    • be able to ride all Mt Rose chairlifts on their own (load/unload with minimal help)

All Mountain IS NOT a beginner’s program and is not suited for first-time skiers.

All Mountain candidates should be “advanced” skiers.*

All Mountain candidates must be able to ski advanced comfortably (BLACK / Most Difficult terrain).

*All Mountain program candidates will be tested for skiing ability at the beginning of the season.  If the athlete does not meet the minimum skiing ability requirements, the athlete may be reenrolled in an appropriate alternative program (pending availability), or registration will be canceled with full reimbursement less a $100 processing fee.

OVERVIEW

The All Mountain program focuses on advanced all-mountain skiing skills on all groomed and off-piste terrain on the mountain. This is a non-racing program.

All Mountain athletes should be excited about advancing their all-mountain skiing skills and have an eye towards potentially competing as a Freeride or Race team athlete in the future.

In addition to improving their skiing abilities and skills, athletes will learn on-mountain etiquette, build camaraderie, and cultivate an overall lifelong love for the sport.

The ideal candidate for this program is an athlete who can comfortably ski advanced (BLACK / Most Difficult) terrain and has mastered all necessary intermediate skiing skills on a variety of challenging terrain and snow conditions.

ALL MOUNTAIN PROGRAM PREREQUISITES

All Mountain candidates must have at least two (2) seasons in Mt. Rose Ski Team programs / comparable Ski Team programs.

Skiers interested in the All Mountain program MUST…


…be able to demonstrate mastery of Phase 2 and Phase 3 skills in the SkillsQuest curriculum

…be comfortable skiing any terrain on the mountain, under any conditions, at any time (except Expert/Chutes)

…be able to put on/take off equipment on their own (skis on/off, use ski poles)

…be able to ski in an open parallel stance, turn in both directions and stop using a ‘hockey stop’ 

…be able to safely and responsibly ride ALL chairlifts at Mt. Rose unsupervised

…be able to regulate their own behavior such that they are not a safety hazard/distraction to others

…be able to verbally communicate effectively with the coaches, without parental assistance

…AND…

…be able to make own determinations about personal ability limits including terrain, conditions, tricks, and aerial maneuvers

ALL MOUNTAIN – SB

All Mountain program candidates must be able to

  • put on / take off equipment on their own
  • Turn / Transition in both directions
  • Link Turns
  • Can handle any conditions at any time
  • Demonstrate mastery of Phase 2 and Phase 3 skills in the Skills Quest curriculum

Ski Team Meeting

OVERVIEW

The SNOWBOARD All Mountain program focuses on advanced all-mountain riding skills on all groomed and off-piste terrain on the mountain. 

All Mountain athletes should be excited about advancing their all-mountain riding skills and have an eye toward potentially competing in the future

In addition to improving their riding abilities and skills, athletes will learn on-mountain etiquette, build camaraderie, and cultivate an overall lifelong love for the sport.

The ideal candidate for this program is an athlete who can comfortably ride advanced (BLACK / Most Difficult) terrain and has mastered all necessary intermediate snowboarding skills on various challenging terrain and snow conditions.

PREREQUISITES

SNOWBOARD All Mountain IS NOT a beginner’s program and is not suited for first-time riders.

Candidates should be strong “intermediate spectrum” skiers to emerging “advanced spectrum” riders.

Candidates must be able to comfortably snowboard on intermediate (BLUE / More Difficult) trails and progress to advanced (BLACK / Most Difficult) terrain.

*Snowboard program candidates will be tested for skiing ability at the beginning of the season. If the athlete does not meet the minimum riding ability requirements, the athlete may be reenrolled in an appropriate alternative program (pending availability) or registration will be canceled with full reimbursement less a $100 processing fee.

Program Details

Start

9:30 am Start (1:00 pm Rippers PM)
Programs begin at 9:30 am SHARP
Best Practices – Plan to be here at 9:15 am

All coaches and athletes will meet on the snow near the Northwest Express chairlift loading area. Large flags designate the meeting area for each program. 

Late Arrivals

Traffic, Slow Start, etc… You may be running behind for many reasons.

Where to Meet
If you’re late – and your athlete has missed the launch, Please take them to the SNOW GUN on the way to Northwest Lift (pictured below).

When their program returns for another ride up the lift, their coach will pick them up.

Please do not send your child up the chair to find their group.

SNOW READY

Please have your athlete ready for the snow every training day:

  • Fueled – Breakfast (maybe have a few snacks in their pocket).
  • Empty – Use the Restroom before going out to meet your team
  • Uniform –  If you do not have a uniform on the first day, please go to the Ski Team Start Area with your personal coat. 
  • Helmet – Helmets are required!
  • Warm: 
    • Dress in Layers (Easier to shed a layer)
    • Good Socks, Ski Specific, avoid layering multiple pairs
    • Good Gloves, or Mittens
  • Eye Wear – Goggles
  • Sun & Wind protected:  Sunscreen / Lip Balm / Neck Buff

Sick or Cold Kids

If your athlete becomes sick or does not choose to participate anymore on a given day, the Child will be taken to the upper level of the main lodge.  Parents are expected to retrieve their child promptly

  • Parents will be called to come pick up their child. 
  • Parents are expected to be on the mountain while their child is training.  
  • This is not a daycare/infirmary.
