These programs are designed to provide an introduction to ski racing for athletes to start developing their potential.  There will be a strong focus on skills development for future athletic success.  Training will include technical training in slalom and giant slalom using both stubby and full gates and free ski drills.  Athletes will have the opportunity, based on progress, to compete initially in Tahoe League Races and potentially in the Far West U10 races.  Coaching support will be provided at races.

Ski Team programs do NOT include a season pass.

Freeride

2 Day (Saturday & Sunday) + Select weekdays
All-Day Program
Ages 9—18 (as of December 31) 

The Freeride Competition team will focus on developing Big Mountain and Freeride skills. This will prepare athletes for participation in the Tahoe Junior Freeride Series and IFSA Freeride and Big Mountain competitions. Coaching support will be provided at competitions to support athletes

Program Meets: On Snow at Winters Creek Lodge

TRAINING WILL FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING

Athletes will receive instruction on using the correct technique over all terrain types and terrain park features. Athletes will learn basic grabs and rotations (no inverts) over park jumps and sliding hard features, including rails and boxes. Progressions start at the entry-level on each feature.

PROGRAM PREREQUISITES

• Skis in an open parallel stance and a hockey stop
• Can ski proficiently on black-groomed and ungroomed runs
• Side slipping
• Whirlybirds (flat spins) on Ponderosa Run and Kit Carson Bowl
• Ski on one ski, both sides
• Ski bumps in control
• Pivot slips in a corridor
• Athletes will ride with the bar down on all chairlifts


COMPETITIVE
SKI RACING

All-Day Program
Ages 8 to 18
U10, U12, U14, U16, FIS and U21

Athletes in these programs will develop their skills to be able to compete in High School racing, Tahoe League, Far West, and Regional races as appropriate. There will be a focus on developing techniques and tactics through Slalom and Giant Slalom training and free ski drills to build on skills. This will support both improved competitive performance and the development of overall skiing ability in all conditions for lifelong skiing.

The program will also include opportunities for Super G and downhill training based on progress and ability. Weekends will be full-day sessions, 8:30 – 3:00. There will also be some mid-week afternoon training opportunities. Experienced professional Coaching support will be provided at races to support athletes in achieving their full competitive potential.

Ski Team programs do NOT include a season pass.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Membership Required. Visit: US Ski & Snowboard Membership  All Tahoe Race Series races will be U.S. Ski & Snowboard and Far West Sanctioned events. All athletes must hold a valid U.S. Ski & Snowboard and Far West Membership to compete in the Tahoe League Race Series with their home program. 

For those choosing to compete, the athlete is responsible for individual fees, including but not limited to Lift Tickets / Registration / etc...

MASTERS

ALWAYS LEARNING, ALWAYS IMPROVING, NO MATTER THE AGE. The Mt. Rose Master’s Racing Program is for adult ski racers looking to improve their skiing and racing skills as well as those who have never raced, or previously raced and would like to train and compete

The program will include gate training in Slalom and Giant Slalom to develop race techniques and tactics and free ski drills to build on skills. This will support both improved competitive performance and the development of overall skiing ability in all conditions.

Based on progress and abilities athletes will also have the opportunity to train for Super G and Downhill race events.

Athletes may participate in the Far West Masters USSA competitions where there will normally be coaching support provided to help athletes achieve their full potential

Masters Drop-In Training

Drop-in Training sessions for those unable to commit to an entire season or who wish to sample the program may be available subject to Ski Team Head Coach clearance. These sessions should be requested by the day before training, no same-day drop-ins. Athletes may be limited to a maximum of 4 drop-in sessions in a season. The cost per session will be $75 (Wednesday or Friday mornings) and $100 (Saturday mornings). For further details, please contact Ski Team Head Coach Ray Tulloch: rtulloch@skirose.com
